Need to leave today or tomorrow? Seats do still turn up, but only if you look in the right places.
Where last-minute seats come from
Tatkal opens the day before the journey. Cancellations free up seats as the date comes closer. And seats left after the chart is prepared can still be booked as current tickets until shortly before departure.
Be flexible
Other trains on the same route, a different boarding station, another class, or a connecting journey through a big junction all widen the chances. A confirmed seat from the next big station can beat a waiting-list ticket on the direct train.
Why a local agent helps
